Crazy Adventure!

So Jared and I decided a long time ago that we would come down to see my family at Christmas time before we left for Mexico. We were going to come down Christmas Eve, but my boss was offering triple time for Christmas Day and we couldn't resist, so we stayed another day. We took off at 5:00 pm when I got off work. It was a little rainy in the Salt Lake City area when we left, but we eventually reached dry road. We thought we had gotten ahead of the storm, but shortly after Fillmore we hit the storm that was headed north. The two storms were going to merge and we were not far from where they were going to do so. Within 10 minutes we went from dry roads to complete blizzard! Our average speed was about 15 miles and hour. At one point we were a complete parking lot for 15 minutes! A semi had jackknifed and about 4 other semis had decided to stop in the middle of the road to put on chains. The cars were trying to manuver their way through the chaos, but all the cute little 4 bangers on the road kept getting stuck and people had to get out of their cars to push them. Shortly before we reached this spot, we decided we were going to spend the night in Beaver and get a fresh start the next morning. I called my step-mom Loralie to see if she could find us a place to stay. She was able to round up a spot and boy was I glad we decided when we did to stay in Beaver. When we finally got to the exit (a little over 2 hours after we passed Fillmore) we had no choice but to exit. The highway patrol decided that too many people were being idiots trying to drive through the storm and they were kicking everyone off the road. I can only imagine how quickly the hotels filled up after we got there. We checked in, took a nice hot shower to warm up, watched part of Cars, and snuggled in for the night. The next morning we got up there was at least 10 inches of snow on the ground! It was still a little stormy, but nothing we couldn't handle, so we took off for warmer pastures. Roads were still pretty slushy until south of Cedar City and then we were home free! We took a quick potty and eating break at my brother Jonathan's place in St. George (thanks guys!) and then were on the road again. We eventually made it to our desination in Las Vegas!

When we set out on the beginning of our Mexico trip, blizzard was not part of the plan :)

We are flying to Mexico in about 5 hours!! I will try to update the blog while we are there, but if not, I most definitely will when we get back!

MERRY NEW YEAR!!!!!!
