We definitely had an adventure this week! Two big things happened. I guess I will start with the latest things that happened....my unexpected trip to the ER last night. Yesterday evening around 7:00 the right side of my tongue felt like the feeling you get when the numbness is just starting wear off from the dentist office. It then moved to my lips, then to the side of my face. The progression lasted about 10 minutes and then went away. A short time later my arm started feeling weird, but it only lasted about 5 minutes and went away. I told Jared, but I didn't not think much about it. I went to work at as normal at 8:00. Around 8:45 I was talking with one of my co-workers when my speech started slurring. That was when I really thought, "What the heck is going on?" Also, the right side of my face went a little numb again, I could not shut my right eye tight and my vision was a little off. That all went away after about 10 minutes. About 30 minutes later another co-worker convinced me to have a nurse check my blood pressure. On the way over my right hand went numb and went up my arm and then the right side of my face went numb again. At that point the nurse did not even bother with the blood pressure and rolled me down to the ER in a wheelchair....(just so you know, it is really weird being rolled into an ER at the same hospital you were just working at 5 minutes eariler). Because of what I was describing they check me in as a stroke patient. When I got inot htriage I called Jared and told him what was going on. He left Jamison with his parents and met me at the ER. They did not inital testing and put in my IV, but since Primary Children's does not get a lot of stroke patients (go figure) they transferred me next door to the U of U hospital. One thing I will say, when you are a poitential stork patient you get treated by tons of people VERY quickly. When I got into the room they did a bunch more tesing to see how my strength was, my vision, my hand-eye coordination, and how my feeling was. By this time all the numbness had gone away. My least favorite part is when they took some pointy thing and touched my face, arms and legs multiple times with it to see if I had feeling....could have done without that. After a bunch more questions and ohte rrandom tests, thney sent me in for an MRI. They study books do not tell you how loud those things are! Thye gave me headphones with music, but with all the noise I think I would rather just have earplugs to help down out the noise instead of something to add to it. I got done with that, was sent back to my room and then we waited....and waited....and waited. Finally the doctors came in and told me their diagnosis: "a complicated migraine with neurological symptoms." Apparently my brain runs at a fast pace amost constantly which makes me a prime candidate for migraines. Lovely. But they said the chances of it happening again to this degree was not likely. Excellent! Can I go back to work now? Of course they said no, explained some stuff to me, asked me to keep a "headache/migraine" log (I don't even get headaches very often) and gave me my follow up orders. Before we left they gave me something so I could sleep and man did it work! With in 5 minutes I was OUT! And I could not keep my eyes open for anything! They must have really not wanted me to go back to work, but cause if they had not given that to much I probably would have. At that point we were sent home. I felt so bad. Jared was so tired by the time we got home and I was not much help at all....dang drugs. Don't do drugs kids! They mess with your brain! Today I am doing much better and I am back to work.
Onto our other news.....we are moving to Mesa! Yes. I know it is crazy hot down there and we are okay with that :) I accepted a position at a hospital down in Gilbert (just south of Mesa). It is a great opportunity, the pay is excellent, benefits are great, and my schedule is ideal for when Jared gets into school......and we don't have to deal with the snow any more!! With the way things fell into place, we can't help feel this is where we should be at this time. So right now we are in the process of securing an apartment and making arrangements for a cross-state move. Oh boy! Most of our stuff is still packed up so packing will be a breeze. It is all those other details in there that I have to figure out. But we will survive!
I wish I had some cute picture to share with you, but I do not have my computer at work tonight. You will just have to wait until next time!
